5K Run/Walk – 8:30 am Loop around the lagoon. USATF certification CA09001RS

10K Run/Walk – 8:45 am Double loop course around the lagoon.

Tower Challenge (approx 6.3 miles) – 8:45 am Trail route with a 730′ gain/descent plus loop around the lagoon. Suggested for ages 13+.

2 Mile Walk– 8:45 am. Untimed, loop course along the shoreline of the lagoon.

1/2 Mile Kid’s Fun Run (Ages 9-12) – 10:00 am

1/2 Mile Kid’s Fun Run (Ages 8 & Under) – 10:15 am

Directions and Parking:

Arriving early for parking is strongly recommended for all events. Gate and course will be closed at approximately 8:00 am for race commencement. Participants should carpool if possible.

Parking: Main parking entrance is located at the south gate into the park from Lagoon Valley Road exit. Follow the event parking signs. Limited alternate parking available at the Pena Adobe Road exit from I-80.

Directions: From San Francisco area, take I-80 eastbound and exit Lagoon Valley Road. Turn right and follow signs for parking. From Sacramento area, take I-80 westbound to Lagoon Valley Road exit. Turn left and follow the event parking signs to south gate entrance.

Packet Pick Up:

Entrants may register and pick up race packets (bibs/t-shirts) at Fleet Feet Sports, 354 Merchant Street in Vacaville on Friday, April 27th, from 12-6:00 pm. Race packets may also be picked up on race morning at the race site starting at 7:00 am.

Entry Fees:

Adults: $30.00 by April 9th; $35.00 April 9-April 28.

Youth (18 & Under): $15.00 by April 9th; $20.00 April 9-April 28.

Awards:

$600 prize purse for top male & female 5K, 10K and Tower Challenge winners. Overall and top 3 age-group male and female prizes will also be given to 5K, 10K and Tower challenge winners.

Team Challenge:

Create a team of 3 or more participants and include your team name on your entry. Team members should sign up individually. The team with the most entries wins a $500 Classroom Enrichment Grant, donated to a qualifying VUSD classroom in the team’s name. Team members may enter any distance to determine overall team participation. Entrants on teams are still eligible for age division awards in the 5K/10K/Tower Challenge.

Nolan Sullivan is a Senior Analyst with the Yolo County Department of Employment and Social Services. Nolan has lived in Vacaville since the age of 5 and has attended and benefited from the Vacaville public school system. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Administration in Public Recreation with a minor in Human Resources at California State University Chico and his Master’s in Public Administration from University of San Francisco. He recently received his Professional in Human Resources Certification (PHR) and is also a Notary Public. Nolan bought his first home on the south side of Vacaville in 2009 and lives there with his Fiancé, Japhia Bera, his 2 year old son, Brydon Sullivan and 3 Dachshunds, Mink, Bink and Weenie. Nolan is currently involved in the Vacaville Leadership program and could not think of a better community to be a part of. Nolan has always been very grateful for the educational experience he received in the Vacaville public school system and wants to ensure his son and future generations benefit from this tremendous community resource. Vacaville is great!

Lisa has lived in Vacaville since 1989 and was a teacher in the VUSD school district for 13 years at both Cooper Elementary and Jepson Middle Schools. Lisa and her husband have raised 2 daughters, Tay and Becky, who both graduated from Vaca High School and are currently attending college at UD Davis and SF State. She is very proud of the education her kids received in the Vacaville school system and is happy to give back to her community by being a part of VPEF.  She graduated from UC Davis with a bachelor’s degree in design and is currently a Realtor with Kappel & Kappel.

This is the 2nd year VPEF and Vitus have partnered together for this event. Vitus is excited to have its event at the Buck Mansion again and to share the historic location with fellow wine lovers. The Hearn & Gilpin families have been a supporter of VPEF for many years and hope that this year’s event raises even more money. “This is a great way to support education in our community and to enjoy fine wine in a lovely setting with friends and neighbors,” added Catherine Podkin, VPEF President.

Vitus plans to pour their 2008 Reserve Merlot, 2008 Napa Valley Merlot, 2008 Special Select Cabernet, 2008 Oakville Cabernet and newly released Chardonnay at the event, which will also include a selection of appetizers. Entertainment will be provided by a local guitarist, as well as student musicians from Vacaville Unified School District.

The Tower Challenge 10K is the 1st of 2 races in the 2011 Fleet Feet Trail Run Series. Earn points and be eligible for prizes for participation in the this event, The 2nd event is the Lynch Canyon Trail Run near Vallejo on June 4, 2011. Matt Hefner is an Advisor at Asset Strategies Group (ASG), a full-service wealth management firm. Matt has lived his entire life in Vacaville and participated in public schools. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with a minor in psychology at UC Davis.

During his college career, Matt actively volunteered in coaching the Vacaville Blackdog Rugby Club. He participated in the Leadership Vacaville program through the Vacaville Chamber and was also involved with establishing the Active 20-30 Club of Vaca Valley which aims to benefit underprivileged children in our community. Matt stays regularly involved with sports in both a recreational and a competitive atmosphere. He loves Vacaville and plans to work towards keeping it a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.
