Education Foundation Earns Tax-Exempt Status

Looking for a tax deduction? You might consider making a donation to the Vacaville Public Education Foundation (VPEF)

VPEF, which last year incorporated as a California public benefit corporation, recently received 501c3 tax-exempt status from the IRS and the State of California. This means donations to VPEF are deductible from state and federal income tax (unless the donor receives a benefit in return, such as a dinner at the VPEF Halloween Ball), according to Carl Debevec, VPEF board member and attorney-at-law.

VPEF is a non-profit organization that raises funds and supports programs that enrich and improve the quality of the educational environment in the Vacaville Unified School District.

“As a tax-exempt public benefit corporation, VPEF will be better able to allocate its resources and meet its goals of enriching the education process for the students of Vacaville,” Debevec said.

The timing for receiving tax-exempt status couldn’t be better, he added, as VPEF ramps up efforts to raise even more funds for the VUSD as the district braces for what are expected to be unprecedented and severe budget cuts.

“The VPEF board of directors remains grateful to the many businesses and citizens of Vacaville who, over the past five years, have provided the kind of generous support that has allowed it to grow to this level of achievement. VPEF looks forward to continuing with this mission of enabling our students to better compete in the global economic environment.”
