The Kimme Memorial Scholarship
The Kimme Memorial Scholarship was started in 2015 after Ernest’s passing. It is designed to help young woman enter the field of STEM after Ernest’s Mother, Dr. Carolyn Kimme-Smith. Carolyn was a doctoral scholar and made some major medical breakthroughs in the fields of ultra-sound and radiology, specifically in relation to targeting breast cancer. She was a pioneer and tremendous example for young women everywhere that women in STEM were possible and could do amazing things. Ernest’s mother was a tremendous inspiration to him and he wanted to encourage other young women to follow in her footsteps.
A group of Ernest’s friends and family seeded $10,000 to a special VPEF fund a few years back that would be given out in $2500 scholarships. This will be our fifth scholarship offered in his and his mother’s name.
